Culture: Inca Origin: Northern Peru Ca.1450-1534A.D. DESCRIPTION: A handsome polychrome example of Inca creativity. The overall height is 8” and it is 7” at the widest diameter. One side has profuse elegant design elements including many geometric motifs such as quadrangles, areas of checkerboard designs,graduated rows of hanging triangles as well as vertical wide white lines and a wide horizontal chocolate brown wide line circling the lower level. It has matching handles on each side and an odd nodule below the gently extended neck topped with a widely flaring rim. Looking down on the jar there is a multi segmented tan star shape accentuated by a row of dark brown triangles. The rear of the jar has been left unadorned save for a wide white line circling the area just below the neck and a dark brown stripe near the base. The craftsmanship is excellent in all ways. A small round woven reed base will be included for display. This exceptional piece being offered at a more than fair price!
